Review of the Budget

This year's budget can be seen as a fine balance between being pragmatic and popular. Essentially the “Man in the Street” has been left almost unchanged with the increase in GST being covered by the lowering of income tax rates.  However by increasing the GST base rate the government has indicated a clear intention to tax spending and the increase in tax take coming from many who previously might have slipped beneath the income tax radar.
